Electrical Services

In-house qualified electrician — DB boards, dedicated circuits, surge protection, faults.

Airocool carries a qualified electrician in-house, which means electrical work associated with air conditioning and heating — dedicated circuits, isolators, DB board capacity, surge protection — is handled by our own team rather than subcontracted. We also take on general domestic and light commercial electrical work across Durban and the North Coast, including fault finding, repairs, DB board work, additional circuits and points, and surge protection.

Why this sits alongside the air conditioning

A large share of air conditioning problems are electrical problems wearing an HVAC costume. Units sharing an overloaded circuit. No dedicated supply. Boards that were adequate before three more units were added. Compressor and control board failures caused by load-shedding surges and unstable supply. Having the electrical capability in the same team means we resolve the actual cause instead of handing you a second contractor and a second waiting period.

Surge protection is not optional here

Repeated load-shedding cycling and unstable supply are hard on electronics, and modern inverter air conditioners are electronics. The control board in an inverter unit is one of the more expensive components to replace, and surge damage is a leading cause of premature failure. Proper surge protection at the board, and where appropriate at the unit, costs a fraction of the board it protects.

The process

How this job runs

  1. Assess

We look at the board, the existing circuits and what you actually need to add.

  2. Quote

Clear scope. If the board needs attention before anything else, we say so first.

  3. Execute

Work completed properly and tidily, by our own electrician.

  4. Test & document

Circuits tested and the work documented.

Questions

Electrical — common questions

Do I need a dedicated circuit for my air conditioner?
For most split systems, yes — and for anything larger it is not negotiable. Running an air conditioner off a shared plug circuit causes nuisance tripping, voltage drop that stresses the compressor, and a genuine safety risk. We assess the existing board and supply as part of every installation quote and tell you upfront if work is needed before the unit can be installed safely.
Can you issue a Certificate of Compliance?
Ask us directly about COC issuance for your specific job when you enquire, and we will tell you plainly what we can and cannot certify for that scope of work. We would rather answer that honestly for your job than make a blanket claim on a website.
Will surge protection stop load-shedding damaging my aircon?
It substantially reduces the risk. The damage from load-shedding comes from switching surges and voltage irregularities when supply is restored, and that is exactly what surge protection is designed to absorb. It is not an absolute guarantee against every event, but relative to the cost of an inverter control board it is straightforward economics.
