Salt air, humidity and load-shedding
Three things shape almost every air conditioning problem on this coast, and none of them appear in a national installer's checklist.
Salt corrodes condensers
From Umhlanga up through Umdloti, Salt Rock and Ballito, outdoor units sit in salt-laden air permanently. Untreated aluminium fins corrode, heat transfer falls away, and the system works harder for less cooling long before it fails outright. Coated coils and stainless brackets are the fix, and they need specifying at installation.
Humidity punishes bad sizing
An oversized unit cools the air fast, satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it has removed any moisture. You get a room that is cold and still feels damp, plus a compressor short-cycling itself to an early death. Sizing to the actual load is the whole job.
Unstable supply kills electronics
Inverter units are electronics, and repeated load-shedding cycling is hard on them. A control board is one of the more expensive components in a modern system. Surge protection at the board costs a fraction of the board it protects.
